Years Spent Teaching: Since 2007, that’s 14 years

Favorite Experience at Irvington: I love when former students come back and update me on their lives; what they've done, what they've accomplished, what they're doing with their lives. In general, it's watching what students create when you give them a little bit of encouragement. I had one student who was really shy, I thought he was interested in photography so I gave him a camera in Sophomore year and by Senior year he became this whole photographer, it was a really cool transformation.

Years Spent at Irvington: 11? Maybe 12.

Favorite Irvington Experience: I had a senior who didn't want to do QUEST, and basically decided not to graduate. But my whole class told him that wasn't an option, and around February he began the QUEST project. It was so incredible to watch him decide to put in that work. He passed QUEST, and at graduation he said, "Mrs. Avon, I'm HERE." Years later he came to Irvington and asked to shadow in my classroom because he was becoming a teacher himself.
